We all love that Harley sound. And of course the look is epic. Nothing sits like a Harley Davidson motorcycle. Now that we have communicated the proper AWE and respect for this great American icon, we would like to list some hot button Harley Davidson maintenance issues that every Harley owner has encountered at one time or another.
Check your fluids – especially engine oil. We have all heard that Harley’s mark their territory. Need to make sure that your engine fluids are always at required levels.
Nuts and Bolts – ok, truth – Harley Davidsons shake, rattle and roll! The vibration of the monstrous engines can shake Nuts and Bolts loose – always dangerous anywhere on a motorcycle engine! Check these periodically. While tightening be sure to check your owner’s manual for torque requirements and consider using lock tight where appropriate. If you’re not sure, double check with your mechanic.
Spokes – The coolest thing to hit cruisers, spokes can come loose. If you are not sure how to do this, stop by your mechanic’s shop and have them check your wheels. This will not only increase your riding safety but may also save some serious dollars considering potential damage to the wheel itself. A stitch-in-time … well you know.
Of course checking the controls, belts, battery, tires and lights is always beneficial. An ounce of prevention can add years to life and dollars to your bank account!
